Applications for Chevening Scholarships now open for young Somalis to apply
The Chevening Secretariat is accepting applications for UK government scholarships to study in the UK in 2019/2020.
The application can be submitted online between 7 August and 7 November 2018.
Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals who demonstrate leadership potential and have strong academic backgrounds. It also offers full financial support to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university whilst gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural events.
UK Deputy Head of Mission to Somalia Mary Shockledge said:
I am delighted to announce the opening of this year’s Chevening Scholarship programme. The scholarship offers an exceptional opportunity to gain outstanding academic experience and expand your global and social outlook. Seeing talent being realised through these scholarships is incredibly rewarding.
There is a huge potential here in Somalia and I’m proud to say that many of our former Chevening scholars are now at the forefront of efforts to build Somali’s future. The competition is always stiff but I hope we will get even more applications from across Somalia this year.
Chevening Secretariat Director, Anne Marie Graham, said:
We are looking for ambitious, professional, forward-thinking leaders from any walk of life. Although there is no single personality profile for a Chevening Scholar, all of our scholars do have one thing in common; they were bold enough to step forward and apply.
Chevening Programme Manager, Louise Thomson, added:
Chevening allows you to truly follow your passions by allowing you to choose from over 14,000 eligible courses at over 150 different institutions. Whilst we expect that your experience will be academically fulfilling, you will also enjoy unrivalled access to social opportunities to meet new people and travel to new places.
The call for new applicants follows the selection of seven scholars from Somalia including Somaliland who won an award to study at a UK university in the 2018/2019 academic year.
