Applications for the UK Government’s prestigious Chevening Scholarships open until 3 November
The Chevening Secretariat is accepting applications for 2016/2017 Chevening Scholarships via www.chevening.org/apply from now until 3 November 2015. The call for new applicants follows the selection of 16 scholars from Bangladesh, who were awarded the opportunity to study at a UK university this year.
At a lunch to wish this year’s scholars all the best for their studies, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson CMG said:
Congratulations on achieving a Chevening Scholarship. It is the UK Government’s international flagship programme which allows future leaders, influencers and decision-makers from around the world to learn, build on their experience and benefit their country. You will soon be members of an elite club – people who can shape tomorrow’s future. I am proud that the UK is firmly committed to helping the future leaders of Bangladesh to seize that potential.’
In relation to the Scholarship Programme as a whole, Chevening Secretariat Director, Michael Scott-Kline, said:

Not only do award recipients receive a first-rate UK education, through Chevening they join a vibrant community of Chevening Alumni, Foreign and Commonwealth Office staff, UK universities, and partner organisations. Chevening Award recipients will draw on and contribute to this community for the rest of their lives. I am delighted to announce the opening of the 2016/2017 competition for Chevening Scholarships. Chevening Scholarships, started ion 1983are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations.
Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with strong academic backgrounds who can also demonstrate their leadership potential.
The scholarship offers financial support to study for a Master’s degree at any of the UK’s leading universities and the opportunity to become part of an influential global network of 44,000 alumni in over 160 countries and territories worldwide.
In 2015/2016 over 1,500 scholarships were awarded.
The name ‘Chevening’ comes from Chevening House in Sevenoaks, Kent – currently the joint official residence of the UK’s Foreign Secretary.
