Appointment of the Chair of the Judicial Appointments Commission
The Lord Chancellor has appointed Lord Kakkar as the new Chair of the Judicial Appointments Commission.

The Lord Chancellor confirmed today (21 October 2016) the appointment of Lord Kakkar as the new Chair of the Judicial Appointments Commission.
The appointment is for an initial term of 3 years from 3 October 2016.
Lord Kakkar is Professor of Surgery at University College London and Chairman of UCL Partners. His research interests are in the field of thrombosis.
In 2010 he became a Cross-Bench Peer and has held the role of Chairman of the House of Lords Appointments Commission since 2013. He was appointed to the Privy Council in 2014.
