Australia has over 16 million people who are active online and 62% of those users purchase goods and services online on a regular basis.

With industry revenue now totaling £8.3 billion (AU$14.2 billion), e-commerce has changed the face of the Australian retail sector, representing a shift in the way consumers make transactions.

Aided by the strong Australian dollar and the exclusion of tax on imported items under £600 (AU$1000), more and more Australians are choosing to purchase from international sites.

It is anticipated that online retailing will continue to grow in popularity and demand over the next five years by an annualised 10.8% to total £10.6 billion (AU$18.2 billion).

The team at UK Trade & Investment Australia has put together an e-commerce sector report with information for UK retailers looking to sell online into Australia.

Many British companies are already successfully selling their products and services online into Australia however significant opportunities remain.
