Baroness Anelay on Second Reading of EU Referendum Bill in the Lords

Baroness Anelay comments ahead of the Second Reading of the EU Referendum Bill

This was published under the 2015 to 2016 Cameron Conservative government

Commenting ahead of Second Reading of the EU Referendum Bill in the House of Lords today Baroness Anelay said:

Today takes us one step closer to delivering a referendum on whether the UK should remain in or leave the European Union. This will give the British people the final say on an issue that they have not been directly consulted on for over 40 years. In those long years the European Union has changed beyond all recognition. The British public are not happy with the status quo, so we are renegotiating a new deal on our relationship with the EU, which will then be put to them in the referendum. This Bill sets the stage for one of the biggest decisions the people of these islands have been asked to make in a generation.
