Baroness Helen Newlove reappointed as Victims’ Commissioner

Baroness Newlove has today (28 January 2016) been re-appointed as Victims’ Commissioner for another 3 years.

This was published under the 2015 to 2016 Cameron Conservative government

The reappointment will allow her to continue to extend and grow her programme of work in the victims field.

Baroness Newlove will continue to inform policy making and play a significant role in delivering services and support to victims across the criminal justice system.

Victims’ Commissioner Baroness Newlove said:

I am delighted to be able to continue as the Victims’ Commissioner. I have worked hard over the past 3 years to establish an office that enables me to support victims and improve their experience of the criminal justice system.

By reviewing compliance with the Victims’ Code I have encouraged positive changes in victims’ treatment and look forward to building on this work during my next term.

The Victims’ Commissioner’s role involves:

  • Looking at key parts of the criminal justice system
  • Attending conferences, workshops and events
  • Contributing to consultations affecting victims and witnesses
  • Meeting a range of victims and witness and victims’ organisations
