Battles of El Alamein remembered

Representatives of different nations gather to remember the fallen

On 26 October, representatives of 31 different nations gathered together in El Alamein at the Commonwealth cemetery, to mark the 71st anniversary of the 1942 battles of El Alamein. Wreaths were laid to commemorate those who gave their lives in the battles.

British Ambassador James Watt, in attendance, said: ‘We are here to remember the fallen, to learn the lessons of history and to hope for peace.

The annual Remembrance Day service will be held at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Heliopolis at 10.45 a.m. on Sunday 10 November.
