Best of British healthcare expertise at China Health Forum
UK Trade & Investment and Healthcare UK presence at ‘Healthcare is GREAT’ showcase in Beijing.
British world-leading expertise from across UK healthcare exhibited at the China Health Forum from 16th-18th August. The exhibition enabled visitors to observe a full simulated ‘live’ surgery in action. Visitors also had opportunity to learn more about training; consultancy; elderly care; digital health; hospital build and management; medical equipment; and the National Health Service (NHS).
As the NHS celebrated their 65th anniversary this year, the GREAT showcase allowed delegates to learn about the NHS as the most efficient public healthcare system in the world - clarifying its common challenges similar with those of China especially aging society and non-communicable diseases. Delegates were encouraged to talk to the private organisations that worked with the NHS deliver quality healthcare, including Aedeas, BT, BUPA, Gleeds, NB Medical Education, Serco Health and TPP.
The Healthcare is GREAT showcase featured two interactive exhibits that included a simulated emergency surgery within a portable training operating theatre. This is a high tech, highly realistic simulation centre that is being increasingly used in British medical training. The theatre inflates in 3 minutes and can be quickly assembled and dismantled. Once deflated and packed up, it is small enough to fit in the boot of a car.
Complimentary health checks were also available for delegates to experience and learn about characteristic medical procedures similar to those employed in the UK.
UK Trade & Investment and Healthcare UK brought sixteen leading British healthcare organisations to the China Health Forum including Aedeas, BT, BUPA, Gleeds, NB Medical Education, Serco Health, TPP, GE Healthcare, Heythorp Healthcare, Imperial College, IXICO, Jones Lang LaSalle, KPMG, Smith&Nephew, Synergy Health and TFP Ryder. The UK presence was led by Brian Gallagher, Commercial Counsellor at the British Embassy in Beijing, and Howard Lyons, Managing Director for Healthcare UK.
Brian Gallagher says:
The China Health Forum was an excellent platform to demonstrate the UK’s proud history of the NHS and its delivery partners. We were delighted to take Mr Chen Zhu, Vice-Chairperson of the 12th National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee (former Chinese Health Minister), accompanied by current Deputy Health Ministers, through the NHS experience and to meet many of the UK exhibitors. The UK Government looks forward to working with the Chinese Government on its healthcare reform agenda and developing key areas of collaboration with International Health Exchange and Cooperation Centre (IHECC).
Howard Lyon says:
The China Health Forum proved to be a very successful event for Healthcare UK and all the 16 British companies who participated.
The seminar organised by Healthcare UK and UKTI to showcase British expertise in primary healthcare, digital health, education and training, elderly care and facilities management attracted a highly participative audience of over 100 senior leaders from the Chinese health community, and was singled out for praise by DG Gao of IHECC. A number of significant high-level meetings were also organised in which potential Chinese partners and British organisations took part. One UK organisation said it had 20 leads of substance to pursue as a result of taking part in the China Health Forum and associated activities.
