Blaise Biogas anaerobic digestion facility seeks new environmental permit for Blaise Farm operations

Anaerobic digestion (AD) company applies for permit to process food waste and green waste at its facility in West Malling, Kent

The Environment Agency has received an application for a new bespoke permit from BioConstruct NewEnergy Ltd, for operations at its Blaise Biogas AD facility, Blaise Farm Quarry, West Malling, Kent ME19 4PN.

If granted, the permit will allow the recovery, or a mix of recovery and disposal, of non-hazardous food waste and green waste with a capacity exceeding 75 tonnes a day involving biological treatment, or 100 tonnes a day if the only waste treatment activity is anaerobic digestion.

The application falls under the Environmental Permitting (England & Wales) Regulations 2016.

The Environment Agency is now asking for the views of the local community on this environmental permit application.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said:

We are considering the application from BioConstruct NewEnergy Ltd, but before we make any decisions, we want to give the local community an opportunity to give us their views. All responses will be reviewed in detail.

They will help us to decide whether to grant the permit and, if we do, what conditions we would need to impose to adequately protect the environment and human health.

Consultation is now open and will run from Thursday 19 December 2019 until Friday 31 January 2020.
