Experience of trauma, especially psychological and emotional, is universal and impacts on all areas of human functioning, including physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.
Trauma is often an “underlying” condition informing other problematic presentations, (e.g. drug/alcohol misuse/difficult behaviours). Trauma-informed practice builds on the foundation of awareness, understanding and responsiveness to the impact of traumatic events in the lives of both service users and professionals. This free seminar offered an overview of current national and international research on adverse childhood experiences, trauma and problematic experiences.Expert Practitioners and a former service-user then discussed the real world challenges faced and what services need to be commissioned to increase the resilience and wellbeing of those affected.
