On 31 October Her Majesty’s Ambassador George Edgar delivered a guest lecture at the Department of Diplomatic Courses at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy under the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ambassador spoke about British foreign policy goals and the United Kingdom’s relations with Central Asian states.

This guest lecture was attended by around thirty course participants including mid-career professionals from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry for Foreign Economic Relations and Economy, the Institute of Strategic and Regional Studies under the Presidential Administration, as well as graduate students of UWED and faculty members.

The audience had an opportunity to learn more about British foreign policy in support of economic development, trade, security, action on climate change and other areas.

The Ambassador spoke about the importance attached by the UK to working with Uzbekistan and the other countries of Central Asia to support Afghanistan’s stability and economic development following the NATO Summit that was hosted in the United Kingdom in September this year.

He also spoke about cooperation between the UK and Uzbekistan in trade and investment, and added that Britain offers an attractive location for businesses with easy access to customers, product innovators, suppliers and business partners.

The lecture was followed by a lively discussion and the Ambassador answered questions from the audience.
