British Ambassador visits President of Congress Nery Ramos

The British Ambassador, Nick Whittingham, paid a visit to the President of Congress, Nery Ramos, to find opportunities of collaboration to strengthen Guatemala’s democracy.

The Ambassador congratulated President Ramos on his assumption as President of Congress of the 10th Legislature after the 2023 General Election Process.

Ambassador Whittingham stressed that the UK is keen to collaborate with Congress to continue developing its transparency and accountability skills, enhancing investigative research capabilities and share experiences on citizen engagement.

The Ambassador welcomed the new Congress’ approach to an inclusive dialogue that takes on board all political actors and encouraged this debate to continue to address Guatemala’s most pressing challenges.

Finally, Ambassador Whittingham underscored that the UK wants to continue advancing our international partnership with Guatemala in priority areas such as tackling climate change, spur economic prosperity and stand for human rights and media freedom.
