British Ambassador welcomes the elections held in Bahrain
The British Ambassador, Iain Lindsay, OBE welcomes the municipal and legislative elections held on 22 and 29 November.
British Ambassador to Bahrain said:
I welcome the municipal and legislative elections held in Bahrain on 22 and 29 November. Whilst it is disappointing there was a boycott by the opposition, and despite worrying reports of intimidation of candidates and voters, the turnout figures were encouraging. I commend the participation of a broad range of candidates and the election of a number of women. The UK wishes the new Parliament every success over the next four years. It is important that it fulfills its constitutional role, represents all the communities across Bahrain, and supports an intensified reform programme.
