British and German Embassies commemorate WWI’s Christmas Truce
The British Embassy in Doha marked the 100th anniversary of the WWI Christmas Truce by co-organising a friendly football match.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War Christmas truce, the British Ambassador Nicholas Hopton and the German Deputy Head of Mission Michael Bierhoff organised a friendly football match on Wednesday 17 December at Aspire, sending out a message of reconciliation and peace.
Staff from the British, German, Canadian, Belgian, French and Indian embassies played against each other commemorating this moment of peace from 100 years ago.
25 December will see the centenary of the 1914 one day truce when soldiers in the First World War unofficially stopped fighting, exchanged gifts and played football in the no-man’s land between the fighting sides.
