British Consul General in Jerusalem, Dr. Alastair McPhail visited the Jenin Governorate yesterday, and met the Governor of Jenin, Colonel Ibrahim Ramadan, and the Mayor, Walid Abu Mawis. McPhil also visited the Jenin Refugee Camp and Canaan Fair Trade in the village of Borquin.

During his visit, McPhail visited the Freedom Theatre in the Jenin Refugee Camp, which focuses on popular culture and promotes art and drama as a catalyst for social change. He also visited the Not-To-Forget Women Society; which aims to empower Palestinian women by offering self employment opportunities and job creation. McPhail later visited the Al Jaleel Charitable Society for Care and Community Rehabilitation, which aims to create equal opportunities for people with disabilities and assists in increasing their inclusion and full participation in the community through a community-based rehabilitation programme.

Commenting on the visit, Dr. McPhail said:

The UK supports the two state solution and supports the establishment of a Palestinian state over 1967 boarders with Jerusalem as a shared Capital.

We believe that an immediate return to negations can create long-lasting and sustainable peace, which will ease the agony of the people in Jenin and elsewhere in the region.

The UK denounce the expansion of settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
