British Consulate General New York hosts charity baby shower
The consulate general & St. George’s Society of New York raised thousands of dollars and diapers for US children’s charity Baby Buggy.
The event, which celebrated the upcoming arrival of the royal baby, brought together more than 100 professional women for an evening of networking. As part of the celebrations, leading UK baby store Mamas and Papas donated $25,000 to US children’s charity Baby Buggy, while guests took part in a diaper drive for Baby Buggy, collecting hundreds of diapers and baby wipes for children in need.
Guests also enjoyed a UK-themed silent auction raising nearly $4,000 for St. George’s Society, the oldest British charity in New York, which helps disadvantaged UK and Commonwealth citizens in New York. Leading UK brands including LK Bennett, Karen Millen, Emma Bridgewater, Wedgwood, Molton Brown, Thomas Pink, Lush, Space NK and Mamas and Papas donated items to the auction.
“In New York City nearly one in three children live in poverty,” said Susan Lopez, wife of British Consul General Danny Lopez. “As we look forward to the arrival of the royal baby this summer, The GREAT British Baby Shower provides a wonderful opportunity to improve the lives of families and children who are truly in need.”
The founder and president of Baby Buggy, Jessica Seinfeld, was also present. “Baby Buggy is honoured to be a part of this wonderful celebration,” said Seinfeld, who is also a best-selling author and mother. “The support of the British consulate, St. George’s Society and Mamas and Papas through this event will provide much-needed strollers and diapers to the families we serve.”
Rosie Pope, the British-born entrepreneur who stars in Bravo’s Pregnant in Heels, said; “The royal baby has reminded us just what joy babies bring to us and the great need to do anything we can to support those less fortunate and give them all the start in life they deserve.” Pope is also the founder and creative director of Rosie Pope Maternity and MomPrep, and the author of MommyIQ.
