British Embassy Abu Dhabi supports Sightsavers

The British Embassy Abu Dhabi hosted a reception attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra KG CGVO and Former UK Prime Minister, The Right Honourable Sir John Major, KG CH.

On the evening of Tuesday 29th April, the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi hosted a reception in honour of Sightsavers, a leading international NGO which also has a branch in the UAE. Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra KG GCVO and former UK Prime Minister The Rt Hon Sir John Major KG CH, long-time supporter of Sightsavers respectively were guests of honour at the event.

Representatives of Sightsavers, which works to eradicate avoidable blindness in developing countries, are currently in Abu Dhabi to speak at the UAE Conference on Saving Sight which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan. The event will be hosted at the Emirates Palace Hotel on Wednesday 30 April.

Speaking at the reception Ambassador Dominic Jermey said:

It is an honour to have Princess Alexandra and Sir John Major here at the Embassy tonight, amongst so many friends that hold progress in eye health care close to their heart. I am delighted that critical issues on combating avoidable blindness are being discussed in the UAE and I know that Sightsavers, a global leader in the cause, will play a pivotal role in tomorrow’s Conference. The event is an important demonstration of UK and UAE collaboration in this crucially important field’
