British Embassy and Beeline launch English learning by SMS
New “one word a day” service offers a fun way to learn English via SMS.

The “one word a day” programme is funded by the British Embassy Vientiane and implemented by Beeline with support from the British Council. It was officially launched on November 19 at the Beeline head office in Vientiane by Ian Armstrong, CEO of Beeline Laos, and Stephen Lillie, Director Asia-Pacific, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The service is available for all Beeline subscribers free of charge and offers a fun and effective way to improve one’s English language knowledge. People who sign up for the service will receive a new word or phrase everyday in writing, helping them to expand their vocabulary and to improve pronunciation.
How to use “one word a day”?
If you are a Beeline subscriber you can access the service through the short code 1234:

To register, send an SMS with REG to 1234.

English language education is a key area of UK – Lao cooperation. As part of the two countries’ “Creative Partnership”, the British Embassy Vientiane supports the Lao government in establishing English as a second language at primary schools by improving English teacher skills and creating modern teaching material, and also funds an English-language training programme for Lao government officials.
