British Embassy Beijing celebrates Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday
On 12th June, the British Ambassador welcomed more than 800 British and Chinese guests to the Queen’s Birthday Party celebrations in the gardens of his Residence in Beijing.
This year marks the 62nd anniversary of HM Queen Elizabeth II. In 2012, the UK celebrated her Diamond Jubilee that marked 60 years on the British throne. She is only the second monarch in British history to reach this milestone
As a special surprise, the guests were treated to a visit by Her Majesty herself during the cutting of the cake. Although not the authentic version, guests were able to have their photos taken next to the waxwork model of The Queen. The model was generously provided by Madame Tussauds who have recently opened a flagship store in Beijing.
This year, the event was sponsored by BP, Shell, BG Group, Royal Bank of Scotland and ASOS. The event profiled the UK’s creative expertise across a broad range of areas. Each sponsor had a stand at the event and was able to interact directly with guests in their own creative ways. Drinks were provided by Diageo, Pernod Ricard and PFB Trading. The birthday cake was provided by The Kerry Hotel.
As one example of exceptional British design and engineering, the parking area of the Ambassador’s Residence was transformed into a showcase of high-end British automotive brands. This year, the display featured cars from three of Britain’s most iconic brands: Aston Martin, Rolls Royce and Morgan Motor Company. Aston Martin exhibited two models: The Rapide S and Vanquish; Morgan Motor Company displayed a new version of one of their most classic cars: The Morgan Plus 8; alongside one of Rolls Royce’s newest models: The Wraith - the new product line having launched in 2013.
