British Embassy Doha hosts Sport is GREAT event
The event is an opportunity for the UK and Qatar to share experiences of delivering major sporting events.
The British Embassy hosted the inaugural Sport is GREAT event on Wednesday 9th November, to promote the UK and Qatar’s shared commitment to delivering successful sporting events in both countries.
The event is an opportunity for the UK and Qatar to share experiences of delivering major sporting events with a particular focus on areas of collaboration and expertise. The UK wishes to work in partnership with Qatar to deliver its vision in the sporting sector.
The Event was opened by the Rt Hon Greg Hands, MP, UK Trade and Investment Minister. The Minister was accompanied by a high profile Trade Mission of 11 British companies with significant capability to supply the sporting projects in Qatar.
Trade Minister Greg Hands said:
I am delighted to be in Qatar for the Sport is GREAT event, demonstrating the UK’s world-leading capability in hosting major sporting events. Sport and business go hand in hand in bringing people together across the globe, and we want our support for a successful 2022 World Cup to help strengthen the historic ties between our two countries.
Also attended the event were Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, and Dr Thani Al Kuwari, Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee. They gave key note speeches and delivered their vision for the sporting sector in Qatar. Other speakers included Robert Morini, Head of International Sport, and Aidan Mullally, Head of Business Development at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Aidan was also representing the Football Association Premier League and was accompanied by the Premier League trophy.
