New report looks at different sectors where the UK and Finland could increase cooperation in the Arctic.

DHM Richard Shackleton at Arctic seminar

Deputy Head of Mission Richard Shackleton opened the Arctic seminar.

The report, commissioned by the British Embassy and compiled by Gaia Consulting, was presented to a roomful of Finnish Arctic experts at a seminar at the British Ambassador’s Residence on 10 February 2017.

“There has never been a more interesting time to write a report like this”, said Gaia’s Business Director and the lead author of the report Pekka Pokela at the start of his presentation. An undoubtedly true statement, as Finland takes up the chairmanship of the Arctic Council in May 2017.

Cooperation opportunities lie in many sectors where both Finland and the UK have strong expertise, such as environmental research, sustainable solutions, maritime, tourism, finance, insurance and risk management, smart solutions and digitalisation, just to name a few.
