Legacy marked in Seoul
The British Embassy in Seoul today joined forces with the Korean Association of Athletics Federation(KAFF) to celebrate the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics.
112 children from Deoksu Elementary School were led through sports events by Korean Olympic stars Kim Hyun-sup(male race walk) and Kim Seong-eun(female marathon).
British Ambassador Scott Wightman opened the event. He said:
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games were a wonderful festival of sport and I am delighted we could work with the KAAF to celebrate their legacy. The Games encouraged young people all over the world to take up sports and we saw that borne out today. A key promise from the Games’ organisers was that the Olympics would deliver a lasting legacy and I am delighted we could celebrate that today.
Lee Gi-woong, the vice chairman of KAAF said:
We are pleased to join this meaningful event today. I sincerely hope young people will be more interested in sports and continue to participate in athletics.
