British Embassy welcomes EU Observation Mission report on Kosovo elections

Statement from the British Embassy in Pristina welcoming preliminary report of the EU Observation Mission.

This was published under the 2016 to 2019 May Conservative government

We welcome the preliminary report of the EU Observation Mission and its conclusions. A strong democracy and a robust electoral system is vital to Kosovo’s progress. We are pleased that the elections were conducted in a largely peaceful manner and that most Kosovo citizens were able to express their democratic will through their vote. We also commend civil society for its important role in observing the elections.

However, the preliminary report notes a number of concerns including the intimidation of Kosovo-Serb voters, out-of-country voting, and inaccurate voter lists. We hope that the Kosovo authorities will take action against anyone engaged in intimidation or other electoral abuses, and work without delay to address the weaknesses identified in the electoral system.
