British High Commission and Brunei Sports School celebrate 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games
The British High Commission and the Brunei Sports School celebrated one week to go to Glasgow 2014 with a Commonwealth themed Amazing Race.

The competition saw twelve teams comprising of Year 8 to Year 11 Sports School students use their knowledge about the Commonwealth to answer clues and help them advance to different stages.

The top five winning teams received Glasgow 2014 merchandise sponsored by the British High Commission. Present at the event was Acting British High Commissioner Mrs Sunny Ahmed to hand out the prizes to the winning teams. She said, “It has been a pleasure to join students this morning celebrating an important milestone to Glasgow 2014. I am delighted that Brunei will be sending a cyclist to compete in the games. I hope today’s events and the Commonwealth Games inspire students from the Brunei Sports School.”

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will be taking place from Wednesday 23 July until Sunday 3 August and promises to be the best Commonwealth Games ever. 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 nations and territories will compete in 17 sports over 11 days. Glasgow 2014 will be Scotland’s biggest ever multi-sport event and will have more events and Para-Sport medals than any other Commonwealth Games.
The final sports programme will consist of events held across 17 sports and 11 days of competition and will feature additional highlights including:
- the biggest-ever number of Para-Sports medals in Commonwealth Games history – 22 medal events in total;
- an innovative new triathlon mixed relay event;
- the first Para-Sport cycling (track) event;
- additional participation and medal opportunities for female athletes in shooting.
The five Para-Sports included in the Glasgow programme are Athletics, Swimming, Powerlifting, Lawn Bowls and, for the first time, Track Cycling.
This will be the third time Scotland has hosted the Commonwealth Games, with Edinburgh hosting twice, in 1970 and 1986. This will be the first time that Glasgow has played host to this spectacular event. People from across Scotland have always supported the Commonwealth Games and the excitement when the Games are here is unique.
