British High Commission Kingston hosts regional PPP Conference

The British High Commission Kingston, in association with the Development Bank of Jamaica and UK Trade and Investment, staged a conference “Delivering Growth by Partnership- Sharing UK Capabilities in PPP”.

The British High Commission Kingston,in association with the Development Bank of Jamaica and UK Trade and Investment, staged a two day conference “Delivering Growth by Partnership- Sharing UK Capabilities in PPP”, on February 19th and 20th. The conference was being led by PPP experts Mr. Owain Ellis of Infrastructure UK, a division of HM Treasury and David Wright, a Director of PPP Solutions and Managing Director of the Commonwealth Association of Infrastructure Development. The public/private partnership (PPP) conference explored the economic opportunities of PPP and provided useful training to regional Governments.Participants include governments from around the region including Trinidad, Barbados, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, St. Lucia, Belize among others.

Among the speakers at the conference were The Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller Prime Minister of Jamaica and Minister of National Security Hon. Dr Peter Phillips.

On day 1, government representatives from around the region were part of a closed session led by moderator Mr. Owain Ellis and assisted by Mr. David Wright. During the day they will learnt how to prepare projects, increase value for money, create solid revenue models and how to work effectively with the private sector. Day 2 of the conference focussed on the potential of PPP to drive revenues and allowed the private sector hear about projects are slated for future development.
