The discussions celebrated the UK’s commitment to promote gender equality and end violence against women.

The first session focused on how to address gender equality in the supply chain. Including representatives from the clothing industry and civil society, the participants considered the role of every stakeholder in the supply chain (from buyers and consumers, to manufacturers, government/regulators and workers).

The second session discussed recent global social media campaigns like #MeToo, which transcend national, economic and other boundaries. The panelists discussed how to maintain the momentum and focus on gender issues generated by such campaigns.

Richard Barlow, Head of Political and Bilateral Affairs, British High Commission said:

The UK is committed to a foreign policy which consciously and consistently delivers for women and girls. This is not only the right thing to do - it is the smart thing to do.

The UK recently appointed the country’s first-ever Special Envoy for Gender Equality: part of our ambition to deliver a step-change internationally.
