Speaking at the occasion, the British High Commissioner, Mr. Philip Barton CMG OBE said:
I am pleased to join Ambassador Janan Mosazai today to discuss the outcome of the London Conference on Afghanistan, which our two countries co-hosted on 4 December in London.
The Conference provided the first opportunity for the international community and the new Afghan Government to set out our collective commitments to Afghanistan’s future as we enter the Transformation Decade. The international community reaffirmed their support for Afghanistan in its efforts to become a more stable and secure nation and to build a sustainable future for all Afghans.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s full support for the Afghan government’s forward-looking vision and reform programme. The United Kingdom will continue to support Afghanistan and Pakistan as they work together to enhance regional stability and prosperity.
Speaking at the occasion, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mr Janan Mosazai said:
It gives me great pleasure to co-host together with my colleague High Commissioner Philip Barton this briefing on the important London Conference for Afghanistan here in Islamabad. I would like to reiterate the thanks and appreciation of the government and people of Afghanistan to the government and people of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland for demonstrating unparalleled leadership on the global stage in not only offering significant support and sacrifices for peace and prosperity in Afghanistan over the past 13 years but also helping mobilize support and assistance from the rest of the international community for the same cause. The London conference was a milestone event in refreshing and further consolidating the international community’s consensus on long-term support to Afghanistan during the Transformation Decade of 2015-2024. We in Afghanistan are confident that this strong international consensus on peace, security and prosperity in Afghanistan will have a salutary impact on our efforts with other countries in the region, especially with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, to overcome the challenges we face and grasp the opportunities before us for closer cooperation and deeper integration that will benefit not only our region but also the entire world.
