British High Commissioner visits BBC Tanzania
British High Commissioner, Sarah Cooke visited the BBC and was interviewed on 'Niambie' where she talked about her mentorship programme.

At the start of British Week and ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s official birthday celebrations on June 17th, 2017, British High Commissioner, Sarah Cooke, visited the BBC World Service and BBC Media Action in Dar es Salaam.
During her visit, the High Commissioner got a chance to meet with the BBC production team and learn more about BBC’s work in Tanzania. She was also interviewed on Niambie, a BBC Media Action production for Tanzanian youth where she talked about her mentorship programme alongside her first mentee, Ms. Byera Rahel Mugini.
The High Commissioner launched her mentorship programme on March 8th, 2017 on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The mentorship programme is the High Commissioner’s personal contribution to moulding more young women leaders in Tanzania.
She said:
One of the biggest challenges that many women face is that they do not know where to go for advice and support about their careers. I have been fortunate enough to have two mentors. I have learnt so much from my mentors, that I want to do the same for young women here in Tanzania.
Through the mentorship programme, the High Commissioner along with other women leaders in Tanzania, mentor a mentee for a period of six months. The selected applicants have the opportunity to meet with their mentors on a monthly basis to plan for the future and shadow their mentors while they go about their work.
