British Indian Ocean Territory heritage visit for Chagossians
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) London welcomes expressions of interest from Chagossians for places on the next heritage visit.
Heritage visits are expected to take place later this year
In November 2016 the British Government announced that as part of the support package, it will fund projects to improve the livelihoods of Chagossians in the communities where they now live. It will also undertake a significantly expanded programme of heritage visits to the British Indian Ocean Territory.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) London welcomes expressions of interest from Chagossians for places on the next visit which is expected to take place later this year. Priority will be given to those who were born in the Territory.
If you would like to be considered for a place on the next trip, you should send your name and contact details, a scanned copy of your passport data page or National ID card and, where applicable, confirmation that you were born in the British Indian Ocean Territory to BIOTFCO@fco.gov.uk

Should you require assistance making scans or photocopies for your application, please visit the British High Commission.
The trip will be physically tiring with long hours spent on aeroplanes and boats, and a short medical fitness questionnaire and physical assessment will need to be undertaken by all successful applicants. As such, you should consider your ability to cope with such a trip before applying as places are limited and will not be easily reassigned should you be unable to travel.
Expressions of interest to be considered for the next visit must be received by 18 April 2017.
