Currently there is at Illisky Training Area near Almaty a 4 man Training Team from the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) based in the Czech Republic providing training for 25 KAZBAT instructors. The training course in Peacekeeping tactics, techniques and procedures is designed to enable the KAZBAT instructors to prepare their soldiers for Exercise STEPPE EAGLE in August when KAZBAT will undergo NATO Evaluation. The BMATT(CZ) training is led by Capt Hugh Mackay from the Royal Marines and runs from 12 to 28 June.

The Airmobile Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan send approximately 18 students each year to attend courses at BMATT(CZ), which is the UK’s Training Establishment for Peace Support Operations for the militaries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and North Africa.
