British Minister meets mayor of Bethlehem

Francis Maude visited Bethlehem and met the Mayor, Vera Baboun, to discuss the challenges faced by the community.

British Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude visited Bethlehem yesterday. Mr. Maude met the Mayor of Bethlehem Vera Baboun. They discussed the challenges currently faced by the community in Bethlehem. Mr. Maude also visited the Nativity Church and toured the old city of Bethlehem.

Following the visit, he said:

Today I visited Bethlehem and had lunch with Mayor Vera Baboun. This is my second visit to the occupied Palestinian territories as Minister for the Cabinet Of-fice.

Bethlehem is an ancient city with great potential for the future. The UK Gov-ernment is working with institutions in Bethlehem and across the West Bank to support the local economy and improve people’s lives. We are firmly committed to a prosperous Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel.
