British Minister of State to Represent the United Kingdom at the Pacific Island Forum, Marshall Islands
The Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP will visit the Republic of the Marshall Islands 5-6 September to represent the United Kingdom’s at the Pacific Island Forum.
Minister Swire has responsibility for the UK’s relationship with Australasia and the Pacific, as well as the Commonwealth. This will be his first visit to the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Minister Swire visited Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu in April 2013.
Hugo Swire said:
“I am delighted to be back in the Pacific for my second visit to the region this year. I greatly value the opportunity to deepen the United Kingdom’s partnership with trusted Pacific allies. I commend Republic of Marshall Islands for selecting climate change as this year’s theme. The United Kingdom is at the forefront of global action to tackle climate change and I look forward to deepening our dialogue with Pacific partners on this vital issue.”
The Minister will be accompanied by Roddy Drummond, the British High Commissioner to Fiji and Head of the South Pacific Network.
