“Hello Chile, Oasis is Here” was the title for the launch of the well-known British ladies’ apparel brand which was held at the Residence of the British ambassador, Jon Benjamin, on Tuesday 23rd July. The Oasis spring-summer collection, inspired by flowers and butterflies, will be available in Ripley department stores in Santiago from 8th August onwards.

At the launch, Jon Benjamin said:

The arrival of British retail products in Latin America, and especially in Chile, shows that this part of the world is becoming more globalised and more integrated into the great commercial network. Another important factor behind the strong presence of British brands in Chile is the fact the Chilean consumer travels more often than before and has thus become an informed, sophisticated and demanding client

Oasis is one of the most emblematic British retail brands that for the last 22 years has delighted its female customers thanks to the characteristics that the UK is famous for: a fusion of the modern and the classic, creativity and innovation and, above all, a wide range of prints that imitate the luxury of nature. With 300 stores spread throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland, Oasis also has a further 80 stores in 19 other countries in Asia, the Middle East, Russia and now also in Chile.

The retail sector is one of the most important areas of the UK economy contributing 5% to the national GDP, and is estimated to contribute around £17.5bn in taxes to the UK, nearly 30 per cent of all tax revenues. Overall, the development of the retail sector has remained stable in the last few years with an annual growth rate of around 7 percent, and this is expected to increase to 8% annual growth by 2016. This growth can also be seen in Chile, a country that for two years running has been ranked at number two in the world-renowned Global Retail Development Index prepared by A T Kearney.

British retail brands have transformed London into the shopping capital of the world. The sector’s innovative culture, in areas such as e-commerce and self-service, are reshaping the shopping experience across the world and have put the UK at the vanguard of multi-channel shopping.
