Calling all young people: #YouthforChange
A day of inspiring talks, interactive sessions, debates and sharing ideas to raise awareness about issues affecting girls.
#YouthforChange
On Saturday 19 July 2014 the UK government will host #YouthforChange, an event developed by young people for young people to ignite action around girls’ rights and strengthen young people as leaders of the future. A day of inspiring talks, interactive sessions, debates and sharing ideas – the ambition is to create a “ripple effect” where young advocates help kick-start a national and global youth movement on girls’ rights.
The event will cover a broad range of issues relating to girls’ rights and empowerment, showcasing positive and aspirational examples for change. A key strand of the event will be a focus on how young people can support a movement to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child and forced marriage – two harmful practices which prevent girls and women from having control over their bodies and lives.
Views from the #YouthforChange event will feed into Girl Summit 2014 to ensure the voices of young people are represented on these issues.
Although the #YouthforChange event is invitation only, you can follow the event on the day through livestreams and follow @YouthforChange on Twitter for all the latest updates.
