The British Embassy held an ‘Invest in GREAT Britain and Northern Ireland’ event on Monday, to celebrate the Doha launch of the UK Government’s largest international trade and investment campaign.

The event showcased information from 7 sectors, from technology to food and drink, to help international businesses navigate the UK market and make an informed decision about the best investment opportunities. UK company Marshmallow Laser Feast delivered an innovative virtual reality experience as one of the highlights of the event.

This is the latest initiative in the successful longstanding GREAT Britain campaign to promote the best of what the UK has to offer the world. Aimed at international businesses, the campaign showcases the UK’s trade and investment opportunities to a global marketplace. This campaign positions the UK as the home of impressive and surprising creativity, expertise, innovation, quality and world leading capabilities.

Declaring to global investors that the UK is open for business, this multi-channel campaign showcases the strength of the UK as a leading investment and business destination, in sectors including financial services, life science and sustainable energy. It shows the UK as a home to cutting-edge innovators, a place that nurtures talent and creates exceptional products and services.

The British Ambassador, HE Ajay Sharma, said:

The UK has always been open and ready for business, and the launch of our largest international trade campaign today in Doha is an important step in showcasing the very best of what the UK has to offer to the world. I encourage anyone interested in doing business with the UK to visit the online platform at www.great.gov.uk. It provides practical advice to businesses ready to take the next step and invest in the UK or international buyers and sellers who may not know what is in the UK market or how to buy British.

The site also includes a new searchable exporter directory, ‘Find a Supplier’ which will help international businesses to find their perfect trade partner in the UK’. I and the rest of the Embassy team will do whatever we can to support increased trade and greater investment between the UK and Qatar in both directions. This is so clearly in our mutual interest.

Marshmallow Laser Feast’s Creative Director, Robin McNicholas, said:

As creatives that explore the liminal space between technology, art and science, it’s great to be part of an initiative like ‘Invest in Great Britain and Northern Ireland’ because it gives us a chance to celebrate the strength of the British creative and tech sectors, and the large scale growth opportunities that we’re lucky enough to have access to.

The crossover between UK creative excellence and technology partnerships is absolutely flourishing and we are delighted to have given the people of Qatar a taste of how to push the boundaries of this crossover to create virtual reality experiences that amaze audiences like never before.
