CDE event full in record time

The Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) held a successful networking event for science and technology providers in London on 9 September 2014.

CDE Innovation Network

The CDE Innovation Network event, on 9 September in London, proved extremely popular with registrations reaching capacity well before the day. This free to attend CDE event provided a unique opportunity for suppliers to find out how their ideas could improve military capability. Briefings covered MOD’s research challenges, funding opportunities and guidance on how to submit a proposal to CDE. Suppliers, both existing and new, found out more about the newly launched themed competition on ‘automating cyber defence responses’. For those who missed the event, a CDE webinar supported by the cyber programme will take place on 18 September from 12.30pm .

The event included presentations on CDE’s enduring challenges by 2 military speakers, who gave their unique perspective on the operational environment and challenges facing defence. For those who wanted to discuss their highly innovative research ideas, face-to-face meeting slots were very popular. It was great to meet those new to the CDE process as well as familiar faces who continue to develop their ideas and provide vital innovative suggestions to MOD.

Guest presenters at the event included Matt Lewis, CEO Project4 Technologies Ltd, who shared his experience as an SME successfully funded via the CDE mechanism, and HMRC, with guidance on how to claim R&D tax credits. CyberLytic and Metrarc Ltd, both CDE funded SMEs, attended the event as exhibitors.

The next CDE Innovation Network event will take place on 30 September 2014, in Glasgow. Please register to come and find out more about the latest themed competitions which are launching: ‘synthetic biology applications in defence’ and ‘defence medical sciences’ in addition to CDE’s enduring challenge competition with its range of defence challenges.
