Celebrating UK-Sri Lanka Ties: Cricket at the High Commission
The British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, hosted the Sri Lanka and England national cricket teams at a reception at his residence.
The British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, H E John Rankin in collaboration with the Council for Business with Britain, hosted the Sri Lanka and England national cricket teams at a reception at his residence, Westminster House, on Thursday, 27 November, 2014.
The reception was part of the programme for a large UK trade mission to Sri Lanka, “Putting British Business on the Front Foot”, organised by the UK Trade & Investment section of the British High Commission, Colombo. This evening provided an opportunity for the visiting business delegates from 21 British companies to network with Sri Lanka’s business community.
It was also an opportunity – on the occasion of the England One Day International tour of Sri Lanka to celebrate the links between the two countries and to raise funds for the Foundation of Goodness.
The British High Commissioner said:
“Sri Lanka and the UK enjoy an exceptionally broad and multi-faceted relationship. This evening we focus particularly on our strong commercial links and our shared passion for cricket. 21 British companies are here tonight as part of this week’s events to promote trade and investment opportunities between our two countries. This evening we also applaud the work of charitable organisations like the Foundation of Goodness in supporting and bringing together young people in Sri Lanka from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. I also take this opportunity to wish both the cricket teams best of luck during the rest of this tour and in their quest for glory at the World Cup next year.”
To support the work of the Foundation of Goodness, a raffle draw took place with prizes donated by the three official partners for the trade mission - Sri Lankan Airlines, Quintessentially Lifestyle and Cinnamon Grand Hotel. Additional prizes were offered by John Keells, Maldivian Resorts and Diageo.
