The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, hosted Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan for the Fourth UK-China economic and financial dialogue (EFD) today. The UK is the only European country to hold this type of dialogue with the Chinese Government and the EFD follows on from a British Government visit to China in November 2010 and an increase in UK goods exports to China in 2010 by 40% to £7.6 billion.
During the EFD the UK and Chinese Governments discussed the financial sector, trade and investment, as well as actions to support the global economic recovery through strengthened macroeconomic policy coordination.
Speaking at the EFD, the Chancellor, George Osborne said:
“Last November I accompanied the Prime Minister on a visit to Beijing of unprecedented scale and today’s Economic and Financial Dialogue builds on those strong foundations.
“There is huge potential for our economic and commercial relationship with China and I am delighted to host Vice Premier Wang for the fourth EFD.”
