Change of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Paraguay
Dr Jeremy Hobbs has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to Paraguay.
He will succeed Dr John Freeman who was Her Majesty’s Non-Resident Ambassador. Dr Hobbs will take up his appointment during July 2013.
Dr Hobbs joined the FCO in 1991 and has worked in Research Analysts on Latin American issues since then. He has previously served in Latin America, with postings to Colombia, Mexico and most recently as Chargé d’Affaires in Ecuador.
On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Paraguay, Dr Hobbs has said:
I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to deepen our relations with Paraguay following the June 2012 decision to re-open our Embassy there. The new Embassy will further strengthen Britain’s diplomatic presence in Latin America and help unlock commercial opportunities for British companies in this important market. It will also enable us to work more closely with Paraguay on a range of regional issues.
