Ms Fionna Gibb has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus in succession to Mr Bruce James Bucknell, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Ms Gibb will take up her appointment during January 2016.

Ms Gibb joined the FCO in 1990 and has held a number of positions in London and overseas. She has worked in Berlin, Kyiv, Mogadishu, Basra - where she was Deputy Consul-General from 2008-2009 - and Sana’a, where she was Deputy Head of Mission from 2010-2012. Her most recent appointment was in London as Deputy Head of the Projects Task Force, covering a range of political, security and cultural issues.

On her appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus, Ms Gibb has said:

I am most honoured to be appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Belarus. I look forward very much to working with the Belarusian government and with non-government organisations on a range of issues, including addressing the challenges we collectively face in the pursuit of prosperity, security and human rights in Europe and beyond.
