Change of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to El Salvador

Mr Bernhard Garside has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador.

Mr Bernhard Garside has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador in succession to Mrs Linda Cross MBE, who has retired from the Diplomatic Service. Mr Garside is expected to take up his appointment during January 2015.

Mr Garside joined the FCO in 1983 and was most recently Deputy Ambassador to Algeria. He has previously served in Latin America with a posting to Cuba.

On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador, Mr Garside has said:

I am delighted to have been appointed as British Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador.

El Salvador is a key player on a variety of regional and Central American issues. I look forward to taking our relations to a new level across the range of mutual interests and getting to know this beautiful and diverse country.
