Change of Her Majesty's Ambassador to Iceland

Mr Stuart William Gill has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Iceland.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

He will succeed Mr Ian Robert Whitting who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment.

Mr Gill will take up his appointment during September 2012.

Mr Gill joined the FCO in 1994 and has served overseas in Chicago, Brussels and, most recently, Melbourne where he is currently Consul-General. In London he has served in the Europe and Asia-Pacific Directorates.

On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Iceland, Mr Gill said:

“I am thrilled to have been appointed Britain’s next Ambassador to Iceland and I am looking forward to working hard to deepen still further the relationship between my country and Iceland at a crucial time in Iceland’s and Europe’s history. We will have many issues on which to work together, including the EU, NATO, and our commercial relationship. On top of this, my wife Maggie and I are very excited about living in, and getting to know, such a beautiful country.”
