Change of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Morocco: Karen Betts

Karen Betts has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco and Non-Resident Ambassador to Mauritania.

Ms Karen Betts has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco and Her Majesty’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in succession to Mr Clive Alderton LVO, who will take up an appointment as Principal Private Secretary to Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. Ms Betts will take up her appointment during September 2015.

Ms Betts joined the FCO in 2001. She is currently a Counsellor at the British Embassy in Washington, where she leads the Embassy’s team dealing with foreign and security policy. Before that she was seconded to the Cabinet Office, where she worked for the National Security Advisor and as Deputy Chief of Assessments Staff. She has worked on Middle East, security policy, European and Consular issues in London, Baghdad and the UK’s Permanent Representation to the European Union.

On her appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco and Her Majesty’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Ms Betts said:

It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco and Her Majesty’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. I look forward to deepening our dialogue and cooperation with both countries to promote our mutual prosperity and security.
