Change of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic

Ms Jan Thompson OBE has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Czech Republic.

She will succeed Ms Sian MacLeod OBE, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Ms Thompson will take up her appointment during July 2013.

Ms Thompson joined the FCO in 1990 after studying French and German at Durham University, and following two years at the BBC. She has spent most of her career working in the areas of international negotiation, crisis management, and conflict, security and defence policy.

On her appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Ms Thompson has said:

I am honoured and delighted to be taking up my post in a country with such rich historical and cultural resonances. I hope to play my part in strengthening further the very close links which exist between our two countries, bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union.
