UK in Cameroon encourages more eligible female scholars to apply for Chevening scholarships
The British High Commissioner to Cameroon Rowan Laxton recently hosted a ceremony in honour of the 2018/2019 cohort of scholars from Cameroon.
The outgoing cohort comprises nine men and only four women. The thirteen awards cover courses in public health, security, development, engineering, technology, agriculture, governance and human rights, with an investment of about half a million pounds by UK government on their various master degree programs across universities in the UK.
Addressing the thirteen “ambassadors” from Cameroon, British High Commissioner to Cameroon, Rowan Laxton said:
This is a lifetime opportunity given you to make your dreams come true. Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine. Enjoy the best the UK has to offer you for one year.
Chevening Scholars share the best their country has to offer with those in the UK, and then share the best the UK has to offer when they return home, as they rub and polish their brains against that of others.
… after all, success these days takes more than just a college education. Far more important is to keep learning new skills and gaining knowledge.
Chevening scholarships are prestigious awards, which underline the United Kingdom’s commitment to promoting growth and prosperity through the education and development of Cameroon’s future leaders. Chevening scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study Master’s degree courses at UK universities, whilst also gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional and cultural experiences.
The 2019/2020 application window for Chevening scholarships is open till 6 November 2018 on Chevening website.
