Chile-UK cooperation on transparency agenda
British ambassador to Chile met local MPs to discuss the country’s participation in the Open Government Partnership Initiative.
British Ambassador Jon Benjamin met in mid-June with the Chilean MPs Hernán Larraín and Patricio Villespin to discuss the country’s participation in the Open Government Partnership which is being co-chaired by the UK in 2012-2013. Hernán Larraín and Patricio Villespin are the chairmen of the Transparency Commissions of the Chilean Senate and the Chamber of Deputies respectively, and are leading Chile’s participation in the Initiative.
The meeting was also attended by Juan Pablo Olmedo, advisor to the Transparency Commission of both houses of the Chilean parliament, and Mr. Alberto Precht, Executive Secretary of the Probity and Transparency Commission led by the Chilean Government. At the event, the group exchanged ideas and initiatives to promote the Open Government agenda at a regional level. The promotion of the agenda not only aims at involving the region’s governments but also including parliaments and civil society as key actors of public transparency.
