Chinese Peppa pig fans will visit the UK this year
The Chinese twins who posted a video message on the social media channel, Weibo, asking to visit Buckingham Palace have had tea with the British Ambassador Dame Barbara Woodward today (21 January).
At the Ambassador’s residence in Beijing the twins were told that Youku Kids Channel and the British Embassy would help them realise their dream.
British Ambassador Barbara Woodward said:
I was really touched by Mi Ai and Mi Ni’s video. Children’s dreams are precious and I’m delighted to work with Youku and Peppa Pig to make theirs come true.
I enjoyed meeting them, showing them around the Residence and seeing their excitement about visiting the UK.
I hope that their experience inspires other Chinese families to travel to the UK and enjoy the richness of our history and culture.
During the afternoon tea Barbara Woodward and Youku General Manager, Liao Huainan, announced a competition to help more Chinese children visit the UK.
‘Special Invitation from the UK’ will allow the winning children to travel with Mi Ni and Mi Ai to visit Buckingham Palace in the UK and explore British culture during the summer time.
The UK’s national tourist agency Visit Britain will help organise the trip and as well as visiting the Palace the children will also visit the family theme park Peppa Pig World and see the studios where the cartoon is made.
Youku will track the children’s tour in Britain and broadcast it on their platform so more children can share their experience.

Peppa Pig is a British animated television series shown in 180 territories worldwide including China.
Peppa Pig was introduced by YOUKU since Oct, 2011. From the Season 1 to Season 6, Peppa Pig has accumulated 15 billion viewings and over 1 billion hours of view duration, it is continuously to be the one of Top 3 premium contents of YOUKU Kid Channel.
2019 is the Chinese year of the pig and on Tuesday a Peppa Pig movie that has been specially created for Chinese audience by Alibaba pictures will premiere.
