CNC wins prestigious national award
The CNC has been named the winner of a prestigious national award recognising our commitment to occupational health and wellbeing.
Oscar Kilo is the national police wellbeing service and the Oscar Kilo Awards were created to recognise the amazing work that has been done, and continues to be done, to provide wellbeing support across UK policing.
The award categories reflect the six areas of the Blue Light Wellbeing Framework; Leadership, Absence Management, Creating the Environment, Mental Health, Personal Resilience and Protecting the Workforce. The CNC was this week named as the winner of the Leadership award.
The judges of the award found that our creation of a holistic wellbeing service had increased our officer’s fitness levels to an all-time high. This has meant that deployability levels have increased to around 95 per cent and overtime costs have decreased significantly.
Occupational Health and physiotherapy services are now well used and, overall, the project has had a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of the workforce. Our holistic approach includes:
- Annual medicals/lifestyle assessments for all employees
- Gyms at all sites
- Tailored exercise/diet plans
- Automatic referrals between occupational health and wellbeing workstreams to provide holistic support
We have also invested heavily into training our employees based on each of our Operational Policing Units and as a result have over 100 mental health first aiders, over 100 trained fitness instructors (trained by in-house trainers to a university accredited standard), and over 20 neurodiversity workplace assessors.
When announcing the award, the judges said: “A fantastic example of leadership at all levels throughout CNC.”
Emma Aldred, Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing, said: “My team and I are really proud to have been instrumental in winning this award, which is testament to the emphasis that the CNC puts on the mental and physical wellbeing of all of our employees.
“To be recognised nationally in this way shows our commitment to occupational health and wellbeing and I look forward to continue building our provision so our officers and staff are supported throughout their employment with the Constabulary.”
Richard Saunders, Director of People and Organisational Development, said: “Our people are the most important part of our organisation and it is vital that we have an excellent health and wellbeing provision in place for them.
“Oscar Kilo have recognised that the CNC have developed an all-encompassing programme that supports our officers and staff in a holistic and personally tailored way and given us this national award, against some stiff competition from other policing partners. We can all be proud of what we are achieving in this field and the support we provide to employees.”
