Comment on the US sanctions against RS President Dodik
The British Embassy Sarajevo made a statement on US sanctions against President Dodik of Republika Srpska in response to concerns about his undermining of the authority of lawfully constituted State-level institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the US’s decision to bring sanctions against Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, the British Embassy Sarajevo commented as follows:
We are aware of the US’s decision to bring sanctions against President Dodik, and share their concerns about President Dodik’s efforts to undermine the authority of lawfully constituted State-level institutions and to weaken the rule of law. These actions have contributed to instability and division in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We take these developments extremely seriously and will continue to monitor them closely.
The UK remains firmly committed to the stability and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all of its citizens. We want to see a strong and successful Republika Srpska as an essential and integral part of a strong and successful Bosnia and Herzegovina. The US have been clear that these sanctions are against one individual; they are not directed at the ordinary citizens of the RS.
We continue to call for all of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s leaders to focus on the vital social and economic reforms which this country needs, and which they promised in the written commitment that they signed in February 2015.
