The British Embassy Bishkek organised an art competition “Common values and creativity” from 29 April until 31 May 2017 as a part of the celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the UK and the Kyrgyz Republic.

More than 130 artworks were submitted from different age categories across the country. The organisation committee, which consisted of prominent art experts and the Ambassador, identified 34 artworks for the art exhibition, which took place on 5-14 July 2017 at the Chuikov Exhibit Hall of Union of Artists of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Embassy invited the public to vote for their favourite artwork on Facebook, and together with the input of the organisation committee, the six top entries were identified for a special award ceremony.

On July 21 the Embassy hosted the winners’ event, at which Ambassador Robin Ord-Smith announced an overall winner. The top prize went to Ekaterina Tereschenko for her work “Dialogue”.

Sofia Sarymsakova, with her piece “London-Bishkek forever”, was awarded a prize for the best child’s painting. Ambassador Ord-Smith congratulated all the participants for their creative talent, emphasising his hope that this competition would encourage each artist to develop their artistic skills further.
